Expanding Your Vision: Embracing New Perspectives

Discuss what you see with a partner

  • What do you see in the image?
  • Describe what you see to your partner.
  • Is this the same as or different from what your partner sees?
  • How confident are you that what you see is correct?

What about this image?

Are you able to perceive what your partner sees?

Frequently, our opinions and viewpoints confine us within a mindset that restricts our ability to recognize the full range of possibilities before us. It often becomes necessary to cultivate the skill of shifting our perspective in order to perceive things from a different angle. However, this shift in perspective may not always come easily, requiring time and adjustment to open our eyes to the realm of untapped potential.

What might be hindering your progress?

I don’t enjoy this class.

Instead of focusing solely on the aspects you dislike, try reframing your mindset by seeking out aspects of the class that are interesting or relevant to your personal interests. Look for opportunities to connect the subject matter to real-life applications or consider how it might contribute to your future goals.

The assignment is too difficult.

Rather than immediately feeling overwhelmed, break the assignment down into smaller, manageable tasks. Seek support from classmates, instructors, or online resources to gain a better understanding of the topic. Explore different approaches or strategies to tackle the assignment, allowing yourself the space to learn and grow along the way.

I’ve never excelled at this before.

Challenge the notion that past performance dictates future potential. Embrace the idea that abilities can be developed over time with effort and dedication. Look for examples of others who have progressed in this area and draw inspiration from their journeys. Cultivate a growth mindset by focusing on the learning process and celebrating incremental progress.

There’s no point in trying; I’ll never complete it.

Shift your focus from the end result to the value of the journey itself. Recognize that setbacks and challenges are natural parts of the learning process. Embrace a growth mindset by persevering, seeking guidance when needed, and viewing each step as an opportunity for personal growth and development.

By embracing a learning mindset, we can develop the ability to explore different viewpoints and uncover alternative solutions. It allows us to approach challenges with resilience and optimism, knowing that there is always more than one way to approach and overcome them. So, open your mind, adjust your vision, and unlock the multitude of possibilities that lie beyond your current perspective.

Put your perspective to the test
